If you are in the market for a mid-size or small truck, you can’t go wrong with the well-reviewed 2019 Honda Ridgeline, which is available right now at our Phoenix Valley Honda dealerships. To show what makes the Ridgeline special, we are going to compare it to one of its top competitors, the Toyota Tacoma, and see how it stacks up.
Honda Offers the Best Truck Technology
Toyota has famously been a holdout on introducing Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to its vehicles. Although the company announced support for CarPlay in its latest Entune infotainment center, it will initially only roll out in the 2019 Avalon, leaving Tacoma owners waiting. There’s also no word on if Android Auto will be included.
The Ridgeline, on the other hand, is available with both systems so you don’t have miss out on the current technology in smartphones.
The Ridgeline’s technological superiority is not limited to entertainment, either. Typical truck passenger side mirrors don’t always offer the best visibility, and you can’t exactly turn your head and look behind you a la The Exorcist. The Ridgeline offers a side mirror-mounted camera that automatically turns on when you signal a right turn. It will display a much broader view of the passenger side than the mirror alone so you can monitor your blind spots without needing a chiropractor appointment.
Safety Ratings are in Favor of the Ridgeline
There is nothing more important than keeping your family safe; they are the most precious cargo that you’ll ever carry. (Even if it is just you in the truck, you probably want to keep yourself safe too.) The Ridgeline’s NHTSA crash test ratings are impeccable. It scored 5 stars, the highest possible, on all 12 of the tests. The Toyota Tacoma, on the other hand, only scored 5 stars on 4 of the tests.
Comfort is Top-Notch in the Ridgeline
If more than one person drives your truck, you know how annoying it can be having to adjust the seat. The Ridgeline offers power seat adjustments to make finding your sweet spot easier. Even better, the 2019 Ridgeline has a memory function with two savable slots so that you and the other driver can get back to that comfy position with the touch of a button. On the Tacoma, you’ll still be fumbling with the manual seat controls.
After you’ve got your seat in position, you’ll enjoy additional comfort benefits in the Ridgeline. With two extra inches of hip room for the front seats and a whopping four extra inches of legroom in the rear, the Ridgeline is clearly the more spacious of the two. On longer rides, your passengers are sure to appreciate the additional room.
Ridgeline Offers More Cargo Capacity
It isn’t just your passengers that will have more room. The Ridgeline has a bed that is 3.5 inches longer and over 8 inches wider than that of the Tacoma, meaning you’ll have more room to fit your cargo. And with the 1465-pound payload capacity of the Ridgeline versus the 1175-pound capacity of the Tacoma, you’ll be able to put that space to good use.
The bed isn’t the only place the Ridgeline shines when it comes to the cargo room. Edmunds had this to say about the truck’s storage space: “No midsize truck comes close. The Ridgeline’s rear seat bottoms flip up to reveal a broad, flat load floor, but the under-seat area can still accommodate a medium golf bag with the seats in use. The crowning jewel is the lockable in-bed trunk, which can hold multiple suitcases or a large ice chest.”
The Ridgeline’s truck bed is ingenious—enough said.
The Ridgeline: An Obvious Top Dog
The new 2019 Honda Ridgeline has many advantages that make it a clear choice over the Toyota Tacoma. Car and Driver seems to agree with us on that, saying, “The Honda Ridgeline has earned our 10Best award for mid-size pickup trucks two years running […] beating out the likes of General Motors’ Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon, as well as the popular Toyota Tacoma.”
If you are looking for the best truck in America, you owe it to yourself to give the Honda Ridgeline serious consideration.
