If the 100-degree temperatures haven’t thwarted your Phoenix golf plans, you’re probably no stranger to the area’s finest and fiercest courses. Even so, there’s no way you’ve experienced every 18-hole course Phoenix has to offer, right? Here are nine fan-favorite golf courses around Prescott, just in case you’re looking for a new place to improve your wedge and iron play.

  1. Troon North Golf Club (Scottsdale, AZ)

As the host to two essential must-play public golf courses near Phoenix, Troon North is simply gorgeous. Its Monument course flows through sloping foothills and gullies, but the magic stems from its stunning views of Pinnacle Peak. Troon North’s Pinnacle course is the more difficult of the two, but it’s also walkable. Locals love these two public golf courses, and tourists come here just to experience Troon North (really, they do).

  1. The Boulders Resort & Spa (Scottsdale, AZ)

End your evening with a round of “Twilight” golf on one of The Boulders’ two 18-hole courses. A well-timed sunset through the six-story boulder formations will mesmerize, even if that means four-putting on the final few holes of either North or South courses. Certified caddies are also available upon request, so be sure to ask for a helping hand if you’re new to The Boulders.

If you’re going to golf at The Boulders, why not make it a couple’s retreat? Pack your Honda with all the lovey-dovey essentials, book a suite at their world-class resort, and schedule some spa time as a duo.

  1. Antelope Hills Golf Courses (Prescott, AZ)

Antelope Hills is unique in that it features two 18-hole courses and over 13,000 yards of perfectly manicured greens and fairways. The North course is lined with trees, but its layout makes the course ideal for amateurs. The South course hits long, so prep your hybrid woods for long approach shots. Antelope Hills is one of just a handful of Prescott and Phoenix golf clubs that offers two courses.

Visit the Antelope Hills website to book a tee time at either of their two public golf courses.

  1. Grayhawk Golf Club (Scottsdale, AZ)

Both 18-hole courses hosted by Grayhawk are impeccable. The Raptor stretches over 7,000 yards across the Sonoran Desert; it is an ideal setting for novices thanks to “generous” fairways, large greens, and short rough, even around penalty markers. The Talon course is even more impressive, with eye-opening views of the McDowell Mountain range only bested by the unique par-3 11th (seriously, check out its swinging bridge).

Make a tee time at this daily-fee golf club in Scottsdale, which apparently is the Arizona city of choice for golf enthusiasts.

  1. TPC Scottsdale (Scottsdale, AZ)

Another favorite amongst Scottsdale and Phoenix locals is the TPC, which hosts the annual Waste Management Phoenix Open. The first of its two-course offerings is The Stadium Course—this is actually where the PGA pros play at—which is packed with sloping thrills, deep sand, and a daunting par-5 15th. Across the way is the TCP Champions Course, a walkable 18-holer that got a full-fledged makeover a decade ago. Snap a pic of the naturally eroded ravines between the 4th and 5th holes.

  1. Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club (Maricopa, AZ)

Located just a short drive west from Tempe, the Fred Couples-designed Ak-Chin Southern Dunes course is remarkable from front- to back-nine. Wide fairways are bordered by evergreen Festuca plants. Bunkers are strategically placed to increase difficulty. Bright greens may even distract you from the beautiful villas that frame the entire 7,300-yard course. Don’t believe us? Check out their virtual course flyover!

  1. Raven Golf Club Phoenix (Phoenix, AZ)

Arizona Magazine ranked Raven Golf Club as the “#5 Golf Course in the State.” Golf Digest stamped it with a 4.5-star rating. And it is one of the best-reviewed Phoenix golf course online. With its traditional Midwest layout (i.e. it is not a “desert course”) that features numerous ponds and water hazards, the Raven Golf Club is a sight for sore eyes. It’s also conveniently located in the center of Phoenix, just a PGA-like drive away from some of our Phoenix Honda dealerships.

  1. Gold Canyon Golf Resort & Spa (Gold Canyon, AZ)

Travel east past Mesa and Chandler, AZ, and you’ll be in golf nirvana at Gold Canyon. This two-course resort is based along the Superstition Mountains—it may sound ominous, but the mountain’s natural beauty will soon turn that frown upside down—and has picturesque landscapes in all directions. The shorter Sidewinder course features difficult and narrow fairways made for pros or wannabes. The more dramatic Dinosaur Mountain course offers six par-3s with steep elevation changes from tee box to each turtle-back green.

  1. The Wigwam (Litchfield Park, AZ)

Last but certainly not least is The Wigwam, a full-service Phoenix-area resort that has three—yep!—golf courses on its 16,000-acre property. The Gold course is a 50-year-old oasis that stretches over 7,500 yards. The shorter par-70 Patriot course is a challenge even for the pros; it features camouflaged ponds and enough bunkers to ruin your day if you’re not careful off the tee box. The Heritage course is a balance between the two, with lush canopies outlining the entire 6,900-yard layout.

The Wigwam isn’t just one of Phoenix’s best golf resorts! With pools, water slides, spas, restaurants, and a variety of available activities, this resort also makes for a perfect family vacation. Load up your Honda Odyssey and book a golf outing or weekend trip with the kids on the Wigwam website.

You may not need a new driver this summer, but you may need a new ride.
