Honda recently announced that the new 2017 Pilot SUV for sale near Phoenix at your Valley Honda Dealers will get a significant technological upgrade with the addition of Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, along with a new fingerprint-resistant 8-inch touchscreen, to its already extensive set of high-tech features.

“The all-new third-generation Pilot has been a huge hit with SUV buyers,” said Jeff Conrad, Honda Division senior vice president and general manager. “For 2017, we’re making Pilot even more appealing with new technology and options that our customers are seeking.”

Honda Technology Leads The Way.

According to Honda, the automaker was one of the first to offer these groundbreaking smartphone-compatible technologies. Both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are currently available on several Honda models, including the Accord, Civic, and Ridgeline. Currently,  a number of major automotive brands, including INFINITI, Bentley, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Jaguar, Jeep, Lamborghini, Land Rover, Nissan, VW, and Mazda do not offer Android Auto, putting Honda at the forefront of embracing this leading-edge technology.

How Does Apple CarPlay Work?

Calling it “The Ultimate Copilot,” Apple states that Apple CarPlay brings many of the same functions available through its compatible smartphones to the new Honda Pilot. These include the iPhone®7, 6, SE, and 5s models.

Once connected via a USB interface, you will immediately see many of the same familiar Apple iPhone icons displayed on the touchscreen. You can then touch the screen, use convenient steering wheel-mounted buttons, or dials and knobs to activate Apple CarPlay’s many features and functions.

Apple CarPlay makes your contacts, email, texts, calendars, and other information stored on your iPhone readily available for use. Apple Maps, for example, allow you to plot a course to a destination with the route clearly displayed, along with turn-by-turn navigational prompts. Using just your voice, you can search for restaurants, gas stations, and other points of interest.

With Siri® as your onboard electronic companion, you can make and receive calls, listen to voicemail, compose and read, receive, and send text messages. Apple CarPlay also allows you to manage and enjoy your favorite music with ease. With Apple CarPlay and your Apple Music membership, your 2017 Honda Pilot becomes your own personal concert hall. Command Siri to play your music selections with album cover thumbnails appearing on the 8-inch Display Audio screen.

You can also expand your sonic library to include some of the most popular streaming music apps out there, including iHeartRadio®, Stitcher, Pandora®, Spotify, and Slacker Radio. Plus, enjoy audiobooks, podcasts, and your favorite news and sports channels. You can also stay connected via your favorite social media sites, such as Twitter and Facebook. You can even arrange how your app icons display on the Pilot’s touchscreen through your iPhone settings.

How Does Android Auto Function?

Much like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto brings many of its most popular and useful features to the new 2017 Honda Pilot. By connecting your compatible Android smartphone running the Lollipop 5.0 or higher OS via the Pilot’s convenient USB interface jack, you can begin using many of the same Android features that power your lifestyle right on the Pilot’s 8-inch Display Audio touchscreen.

Android designers engineered Android Auto specifically for automotive use. They created a streamlined and simplified touchscreen interface with large icons, bring such essential functions as Google Maps with live traffic updates and lane guidance, text messaging, hands-free telephony, turn-by-turn navigation, music, and more to life on the Pilot’s updated touchscreen interface.

To ensure safety behind the wheel, Android created more conversational speech technology that quickly responds to spoken commands. You also receive a free, 90-day trial subscription to Google Play Music, which puts more than 30 million songs at your fingertips.

New Pilot Technology For A New Generation.

The addition of Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ to the Pilot’s already impressive list of high-tech features take the newly redesigned SUV’s cutting-edge capabilities to a new level, complementing the Pilot’s existing HondaLink® infotainment suite.

Available on the Apple Store and on Google Play, the HondaLink app offers its own robust and comprehensive suite of advanced features. These include the ability to schedule service appointments, enjoy on-demand streaming music via the built-in Aha™ app, connect to favorite social media, and more.

By incorporating Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Honda takes the new Honda Pilot SUV and makes it even better for 2017. Completely refreshed in 2016, the Pilot wears stunning new contemporary sheetmetal, features a completely redesigned and upgraded cabin, and is more powerful and fuel-efficient than ever.

With seating for up to 8, the Pilot has the capacity to haul both passengers and cargo in sophisticated comfort. A fuel-efficient 3.5-liter, direct-injected iVTEC® V6 engine with Variable Cylinder Management (VCM™) delivers a spirited 280 horsepower and 262 lb.-ft of torque. An available 9-speed automatic transmission helps the Pilot achieve a class-leading EPA-estimated* 27 highway mpg.

The Pilot also receives top safety ratings from both the IIHS and NHTSA thanks, in part, to its available Honda Sensing™ suite of active safety technologies, as well as Honda’s exclusive ACE™ energy-absorbing body structure.
