Honda has done it again. A world leader in developing top-selling crossover SUVs, the automaker leapfrogs ahead of the competition with the unveiling of the all-new, 5th-generation 2017 Honda CR-V.
Scheduled to go on sale this winter, the brilliant and totally redesigned 2017 CR-V recently debuted to an audience of admiring onlookers in Detroit. It raises the bar in virtually every category, from styling, versatility, and interior refinement to performance, handling, and safety.
Let’s take a closer look at the all-new 2017 Honda CR-V.
Dramatically Restyled Exterior.
While the new CR-V shares its overall shape with its smart-looking predecessors, several aspects of the CR-V’s handsome exterior are new. More of an organic evolution than a complete redesign, the new crossover from Honda features a somewhat longer wheelbase that adds about 2 inches more rear-seat legroom. The hood of the new CR-V is longer, and the front end now sports dazzling LED headlights. Muscular fenders, a shorter rear overhang, bold lower front fascia, and dual exhausts give the 2017 CR-V a more athletic and aggressive look. Narrower “A” pillars and an enlarged greenhouse improve outward visibility.
Most noticeably, the rear of the new CR-V features new horizontal LED taillights that cut into the rear liftgate from either side. A wing-shaped chrome accent bar with the familiar Honda “H” logo runs the length of the tailgate, just underneath the rear window.
The CR-V’s sleek design also benefits from a new, available Active Shutter Grill that improves aerodynamic efficiency.
Innovative New Interior.
Equally stunning, the new 2017 CR-V’s revamped interior offers more interior volume, higher quality materials, and innovative technology. A unique, curving instrument cluster does away with traditional circular analog gauges, replacing them with a digital speedometer and horizontal tachometer that follows the upper curve of the instrument binnacle.
Another innovation is a new, tablet-sized, 7-inch Display Audio Touch-Screen that sits just above the HVAC controls and large, T-shaped shifter. Honda responded to consumers by bringing back an actual volume knob that’s easier to use. Push-button start/stop, dual-zone climate controls, an electronic parking brake, rear USB charging ports, 4-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, and 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat are just some of the many features that set new standards in this class. Plus, available leather seats and other upscale appointments take the CR-V to a new level of sophisticated refinement.
Additionally, by stretching the wheelbase of the new CR-V, the interior gains what Honda claims will be “best-in-class” rear legroom and expanded cargo capacity. Accessing the CR-V’s spacious and versatile cargo space is easy, thanks to the available Hands-Free Power Tailgate, a standard feature on the top-tier Touring model.
Technology also gets an upgrade with an available new Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System™ that was co-developed by Garmin®, a world leader in satellite navigation technology. In addition to Bluetooth® Streaming Audio, available SiriusXM™ Satellite Radio, and HD Radio®, the new CR-V takes smartphone integration to new levels with Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay™. These technologies allow users to seamlessly access many of their smartphones’ essential functions, including voice- activated capabilities, with greater ease.
New Turbocharged Engine.
But the biggest news lies underneath the hood of the new 2017 Honda CR-V for sale near Phoenix at your Valley Honda Dealers. A powerful new 1.5-liter, DOHC, direct-injected inline 4-cylinder engine making a robust and refined 190 horsepower. The new turbocharged powerplant, a first for the CR-V, promises responsive and lively performance. Or, you can choose the normally aspirated 2.4-liter, DOHC, direct-injected i-VTECO engine that provides a solid 185 horsepower and 181 lb.-ft. of torque. Both engines mate to Honda’s advanced continuously variable transmission (CVT) with Honda’s exclusive G-shift Logic Control for smooth shifting and improved fuel economy.
In 2015, the Honda CR-V won Motor Trend’s coveted “SUV of the Year” honors, thanks in part to its exceptional handling over a variety of road conditions. The new 2017 CR-V takes this achievement further with a redesigned chassis and suspension that features MacPherson struts up front and a multi-link setup in the rear with low-friction dampers. All-wheel drive (AWD) models feature tubular front and solid rear stabilizer bars. Variable-ratio Electronic Power Steering also contributes to the CR-V’s crisp responsiveness.
Still A Safety Champ.
The new 2017 CR-V carries over many of the same outstanding safety features that have earned previous models top safety scores from both the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Honda’s next-gen Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure absorbs the impact of a frontal collision while Honda’s advanced suite of safety technologies, called Honda Sensing™, are now standard equipment on EX and higher trims.
Honda Sensing includes Collision Mitigation Braking (CMBS) with Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and pedestrian sensing capability, Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) with Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with low-speed follow and Lane Keeping Assist (LKAS).
Additional new driver-assistive technologies include the available Blind Spot Information (BSI), Rear Cross Traffic Monitor (CTM) and Auto High Beam (HSS) headlights. A multi-angle rear backup camera with guidelines is standard on all Honda models.
Honda’s Greensburg, Indiana manufacturing facility will, for the first time, begin assembling the new 2017 Honda CR-V to meet anticipated demand for Honda’s best-selling crossover.
