How to Social Distance in Phoenix This Holiday Season

Arizona Holiday Trip Ideas COVID

The 2020 holiday season is right around the corner, and social distancing should be a part of life for everyone in Arizona—and the country. We may not be able enjoy family the way we have in the past, but there are plenty of options to add variety to your life while spending time together and avoiding big crowds. We’ve compiled a list of activities in and around Phoenix and want to share how some of Honda’s product line will make the perfect partner for each adventure.

Get the tires a little dirty on Route 88

The Apache Trail is a beautiful 40-mile drive that takes sightseers from Apache Junction just outside of Phoenix all the way to Theodore Roosevelt Lake, while also offering captivating views of the Superstition Mountains and Tonto National Forest.

Jump into a 2021 Honda Passport with up to 4 of your road-trip friends. Much of the 40 miles is unpaved, and the Passport, with its 8.1 inches of ground clearance and available all-wheel drive with Intelligent Traction Management, ensures you don’t meet a road obstacle you can’t overcome. Passport also offers plenty of cargo space to hold your coolers—as well as all your beach and swimming gear.

Enjoy the beauty of the Desert Botanical Gardens with the family

The desert holds an incredible universe of plants and animals, and the Desert Botanical Garden gives families near Tempe and Scottsdale a chance to explore all of them up close with absolutely no concerns for running out of water (they’ve got two open hydration stations).

They require advance ticket reservations to preserve social distancing right now, so pick a date for you and up to 7 adventurous family members in advance. Then just load them into a new Honda Pilot and head out! The team at the Desert Botanical Garden suggests you bring sunscreen, hats & sunglasses, water bottles, comfy shoes, a camera, and, of course, a face mask. The extra space behind the 3rd row in the Pilot will gobble all that extra cargo up, with room to spare for a stroller.

Work up an appetite on Thanksgiving morning

Some of us are ready to dig into that Turkey Day buffet without any warm up, but Hamilton Aquatic Center has a way to help you work up an appetite this Thanksgiving in Chandler. The annual Turkey Swim, which runs from 5:30 AM to 7:30 AM on 11/26/20, is the perfect reason to throw your swimming bag in the back of a 2021 Honda HR-V and take a trip to Chandler to knock out some quick socially distanced laps.

Admission to the pool is free with a donation of canned goods, and the 58.8 cubic feet of cargo space in the HR-V (FWD) gives you an opportunity to bring along enough non-perishable food to cover everyone’s admission. Once you’re done enjoying the heated pool, you can hop back into your HR-V, turn on the available heated front seats, and enjoy the chilly Arizona morning as you head out to gobble down a carbohydrate-laden meal.

Go Where the Wild Things Are!

Staying in your vehicle is one of the best ways to maintain social distancing – but who wants to drive in circles all day? Why not set “Bearizona in Williams, AZ” as your destination and take advantage of their Drive-Thru tour? Guests at Bearizona drive three miles through the untamed wilderness of Arizona while getting shockingly close to black bears, wolves, bison, prairie dogs, jaguars and a huge variety of other North American wildlife.

This is the perfect opportunity to pack a group of up to 7 of your animal-loving pals into a 2021 Honda Odyssey, because Bearizona’s per-vehicle pricing saves you money when you bring along 2 adults and 6 kids. It’s not unheard of for kids seeing their first wolf up close to end up slack jawed while dropping crumbs all over their car, but you won’t have to worry about the mess because the Odyssey Elite comes with HondaVac to make cleanup a snap.

Head out to a drive-in

If you’re looking to escape with your partner for a little alone time, the West Wind Drive-In in Glendale offers an exciting way to spice up your movie night in November. Call a babysitter, hop into a new Honda Ridgeline, and enjoy a movie on one of West Wind’s gigantic screens! (Check out these great drive-in theater tips if you’re new.)

The Ridgeline’s Multi-Angle Rearview Camera with Guidelines is going to come in especially handy on this trip, as you’ll want to back into your spot at the drive-in. Before you go, fill up the in-bed trunk and cooler with some beverages and ice. When you arrive, lay down some pillows and blankets in the 83-inch-long bed and stretch out. Don’t forget to turn your Ridgeline’s bed sound system on and set it to the right FM station!

Social distancing is going to make the celebrating Thanksgiving in Arizona more challenging in 2020, but don’t let that limit your enjoyment of the Valley of the Sun. Reach out to your Valley Honda Dealers to learn more about Honda’s lineup of safe, efficient, and reliable vehicles. Enjoy the holidays!
