The stunning and completely redesigned new 2016 Honda Civic will soon be making its debut at your local Phoenix-area Valley Honda Dealers this November.
Setting The Standard – Again
Once again Honda redefines what a compact four-door sedan should be. Taking a bold step, the 2016 Civic will be the first Honda destined for the U.S. market featuring a turbocharged engine. Speaking with AutoNews, the Civic’s North American development leader and chief engineer, Gary Evert, says “The thinking was that the new Civic needs this engine to go where we want it to go, to make this model such a leapfrog event, such a strong competitor, not just in North America but around the world.”
Critics Rave About The New Civic
Honda recently released new information about the all-new Civic, and automotive industry watchers and writers are already raving about its many improvements. According to USA Today, the Civic should “light up buyers with its improved gas mileage…” The publication also applauds how Honda engineers managed to increase the new Civic’s dimensions, yet still achieve a reduction in weight. “The new sedan is bigger – it is three inches longer, two inches wider and has 3.2 cubic feet more passenger space. Yet it weighs less than the outgoing 2015 model and gets better gas mileage,” says USA Today.
Alex Nishimoto of Motortrend.com observes that the new 2016 Civic is a “bold departure” from previous models. “The front end receives an Acura-like chrome grille that spans across the headlights, which are slender and sport LED accents. The hood and front fenders are more sculpted, but the biggest changes happen in back. The Civic sedan now features a more coupe-like roofline that flows into a pair of C-shaped LED taillights similar to those we saw on the Civic coupe concept. The new model also brings available LED headlights, a first for the Civic,” says Nishimoto. USA Today describes the new Civic’s fresh look, developed at Honda’s advanced Ohio Technology Center, as having “more of a fastback look.”
New Interior Goes Upscale
You would not expect to find this level of refinement in a car costing thousands less than comparable luxury automobiles. However, that’s just one of the things that set the all-new 2016 Civic apart. The revamped cockpit features an abundant use of premium materials, along with a soft-touch dashboard and molded stitching for a deluxe feel. The distinctive center console now sports a jet-black gear selector encased in a silver bezel. Honda replaces the stacked two-display instrument layout of previous models with a revised single instrument cluster that combines a more traditional arrangement with the latest in modern functionality.
All new Civic models receive automatic climate control auto up/down front windows, electronic parking brake, and “walk away” automatic door locks. Buyers opting for the upmarket EX and above trim levels get an eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat, a four-way power passenger seat, heated front and rear seats, and dual climate control.
Taking Tech Further Than Ever
Sitting above the redesigned 2016 Honda Civic’s console is a 7-inch high-definition touchscreen display that controls Honda’s exclusive HondaLink® Featuring Aha™. HondaLink is a full-featured suite of “infotainment” functions that include audio, navigation, hands-free Bluetooth® connectivity, and social media apps. Available Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto® connects your smartphone like never before.
Accelerating Driving Pleasure
Honda’s new direct-injection 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine is projected to achieve approximately 174-hp and 192 lb-ft. of torque. The standard 158-hp i-VETC® 2.0-liter four-cylinder pairs to either a six-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable transmission (CVT). It is projected to achieve an EPA-estimated 31 mpg in the city and an impressive 42 mpg on the highway for a combined fuel efficiency rating of 35 mpg.
Other future power plants anticipated down the road for the 2016 Civic model line include two new twin-cam i-VTEC engines. Honda states that the expected EPA mileage numbers for both engine variants will be more than 40 mpg, pending official EPA verification.
Improved Handling & Safety Features
When it comes to taking those twists and turns in the road ahead, the new 2016 Civic kicks it up a notch. According to Motortrend.com, the new Civic chassis features more ultra-high-strength steel, a redesigned front strut suspension, and multi-link rear suspension. Front and rear stabilizer bars are larger and stronger. A new brake torque vectoring assist combines with four-wheel disc brakes for improved cornering and sure-footed stopping. Going from “Point A” to “Point B” in a Civic just got a lot more interesting.
USA Today gives the new Civic high marks for its improved handling. “The new Civic feels tight and responsive,” notes the publication. “It is at home on twisty country roads, with direct steering and confident brakes. The suspension holds the car flat and stable through fast curves. It also muffles the impact of rough surfaces.”
Honda engineers have always placed a premium on safety. So it should come as no surprise that the new Civic comes well equipped with many new advanced safety features. This available suite of exclusive Honda Sensing™ safety and driver assistive technologies include collision mitigation braking, adaptive cruise control, and road departure mitigation. In keeping with Honda’s commitment to safety, a rear backup camera is standard on all Honda models, including the new Civic.
The 2016 Honda Civic four-door sedan is the first of a completely revamped Civic lineup that includes a Coupe, Si sport model, a 5-door hatchback, and the much anticipated 300-hp Civic Type-R. You can also order your new Civic in a variety of trim levels, including the LX, EX, EX-T, EX-L, and premium Touring models.
